What is acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS)?
AIDS is an acquired defect of the body's immune system due to infection by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It is associated with a CD4 count less than 200 cells/microliter and increased susceptibility to opportunistic infections and malignant neoplasms.
