What is diastolic dysfunction?
Diastolic dysfunction is a condition where there is abnormal pumping performance of the heart. The heart muscle can become stiff, making it difficult for the ventricles (lower chambers) to relax completely. Pressure in the heart rises, and blood can back up into lungs, causing shortness of breath.
