What is subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus?

Subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus (SCLE) is a variant of systemic lupus erythematosus. The body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy skin tissue. Factors such as skin exposure, and certain drugs may exacerbate the condition. A common symptom of SCLE are skin lesions that are scaly.
