What is Subthalamic Nucleus Lesion?
Category: Surgeries
The subthalamic nucleus (STN) is part of the basal ganglia, which controls movement. Lesioning refers to a surgical procedure which involves destruction of part of, or all of, the subthalamic nucleus. This can have a positive effect on tremor in Parkinson's disease. In modern times DBS is the preferred option as it is reversible.
